Online Undercover Investigations

As the opioid crisis ravaged communities throughout the United States, Central Ohio was at ground zero, finding ways to combat the epidemic. As part of their traditional techniques, detectives often used social media platforms to gather information on their targets and associates. Social media has become the greatest form of communication for all generations and cultures worldwide. In response to the epidemic, detectives used their undercover craft to exploit the comfort and communication of Mexican Drug Cartels and dealers operating in their communities.

The methods led to the introduction of undercovers to drug trafficking organizations and Mexican Drug Cartels operating in the United States. Detectives used their techniques to establish relationships that gained the confidence of Cartels and dealers around the world. The results were undeniably revolutionary as the techniques yielded the seizure of hundreds of kilograms of Fentanyl, Heroin, Methamphetamine, and Cocaine over the years. The methods did not require hundreds of hours of surveillance or result in unaffordable budgets generated by wiretaps. The investigative approach forced action that investigators needed to observe to identify and prosecute organization members and seize illicit proceeds and kilogram quantities of narcotics.
